French Nobel Prize Laureate Dr. Serge Haroche was in India in early January to take part in several events in conferences.
At the 104th Indian Science Congress held in Tirupati he gave a lecture on “Power and Strangeness of the Quantum; decoheration, quantum technology in physics.”
Following this, Dr. Haroche along with nine other Nobel Laureates, was a guest of the first Nobel Prize Series in India, organised as a part of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit to be held in Gandhinagar from January 9 – 13, 2017. The event was inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and aimed at spreading science awareness in the country by inviting some of the most brilliant minds in the world to give conferences and share their life stories as an inspiration. The Nobel Laureates participated in two panel discussions and shared their thoughts on the following topics:
1. ‘Basic or Applied Research – Fostering an innovative environment’ and
2. ‘Local research, global impact: Addressing global challenges’
