Raman-Charpak Fellowship Programme

The Raman-Charpak Fellowship is a flagship programme for Indo-French researchers mobility, named in honour of  two Nobel Laureates in Physics, Prof C.V. Raman, Indian Nobel Laureate, 1930 and Prof Georges Charpak, French Nobel Laureate, 1992.

This Programme is for PhD research scholars and Masters Students [only from France (included from year 2016)] at an Indian or French Research Institute/University.

CIFRE (Industrial Agreement of Training through Research) contracts for PhD students

If you hold/are about to complete a Master’s degree, then you are eligible to be a full-time PhD student in the framework of French CIFRE scholarship. This programme is managed by ANRT (National Association for Research and Technology, website in French).

A CIFRE scholarship is a 3 year full time work contract with a French company with a decent salary – minimum gross annual salary of € 23,484 (average of € 28,000 in 2012) – to lead the PhD research for the company and a french public laboratory. This provides valuable industrial and academic experience in an international set up and leads to the achievement of the latter’s Ph.D. thesis. The CIFRE scheme is open to all nationalities.

Recently a specific CIFRE programme has been established between French aerospace and defense company Thalès and IIT Bombay, and Thalès and IIT Delhi. The selected Indian students will complete their PhD both in India (in IIT Delhi, or IIT Mumbai) and in France (in Thalès and in a CNRS research lab).

PRESTIGE Postdoc program

The PRESTIGE programme, coordinated by Campus France, is co-financed under the Marie Curie Actions-COFUND of the FP7. PRESTIGE officially started on the 1stSeptember 2014 for a total duration of 5 years (01/09/2014 – 31/08/2019). PRESTIGE aims at fostering the international mobility of post-doc researchers.

It is open to all scientific fields provided that each proposed research project is in compliance with the EU ethics rules. Co-financing partners may however limit the eligible scientific fields, according to their own prioritised thematic areas.

IMPORTANT NOTICE : Due to the PRESTIGE programme running till August 31st, 2019, 24-month PRESTIGE co-financing grants under the Incoming and Re-integration mobility schemes may only be awarded to successful applications submitted by the 2017, March 31st and June 30th cut-off dates, and intended for postdoctoral fellowships in France (and related work contracts) starting on September 1st, 2017 and ending on August 31st, 2019 at the very latest. No 24-month PRESTIGE co-financing grant shall be awarded to applications submitted by later cut-off dates or to Fellows starting their work contract later than the above mentioned date. Starting with the 2017, September 30th cut-off date, 12 months will be the only available grant duration under the PRESTIGE Incoming and Re-integration mobility schemes.

Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme

The French Ministry of Foreign  Affairs launched the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme to support French centres of higher education in their international outreach initiatives for Master’s, engineering and PhD course in the fields of Engineering, Science, Management, Political Science and Law.

The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme has two branches:
– A Master’s branch, which funds master’s courses lasting between 12 and 36 months;
– A PhD branch, which offers funding for PhD students to spend ten months in France, through joint supervision or dual enrollment (preferably in the second year of their PhD).

Eiffel Scholarship provides funding for living expenses, 1 international return ticket, medical insurance, cultural activities and may also cover housing costs.

Charpak – Research Internship Programme 2017

This programme is designed for all students of economics, engineering and natural science background at the Bachelor’s or Master’s levels planning to pursue training at a French laboratory during their academic break (May to July) as research interns.

Charpak – Master’s Programme

This scholarship is designed for one to two years of studies in France at the Master’s degree level for all streams and fields of study.

The Charpak Master Program offers two kinds of scholarships based on merit:

a) Charpak AME Scholarship (Allocation Mensuelle d’Entretien):
• Living allowance 615 euros
• Medical insurance coverage (approx 300 euros / academic year)
• Student visa fee waiver (16,500 INR approx)
• Assistance to find affordable student accommodation

Note: Full tuition fee waiver at public universities or partial tuition fee waivers by other institutions, can be granted according to their individual policies

b) Charpak BCS Scholarship (Bourse de Couverture Sociale):
• Medical insurance coverage (approx 300 euros / academic year)
• Student visa fee waiver (16,500 INR approx)
• Assistance to find affordable student accommodation

Charpak – Exchange Programme

This program is designed for exchange students from all the streams and fields of study, enrolled in an Indian institution for a period of one to four months (duration of an academic semester) at the Bachelor’s or Master’s degree level.

The Charpak Exchange Program offers two kinds of scholarships based on merit:

a) Charpak AME Scholarship (Allocation Mensuelle d’Entretien):

  • Living allowance 615 euros
  • Medical insurance coverage (approx 300 euros / academic year)
  • Student visa fee waiver (16,500 INR approx)
  • Assistance to find affordable student accommodation

Note: Full tuition fee waiver at public universities or partial tuition fee waivers by other institutions, can be granted according to their individual policies. This will have to be checked with the institutions.
